Our Story
NSL Saw & Tool has been a trusted name in sharpening since 1978, when Duane Larson started the business out of his basement, sharpening chainsaw blades for the local community. As word spread about his skill and dedication, the business grew, leading to a move in 1991 to its current location in Bountiful, Utah.
A Legacy of Precision & Craftsmanship
For over 15 years, Duane mentored his grandson, Jeff Muir, passing down the precision, craftsmanship, and work ethic that built NSL Saw & Tool’s reputation. In 2012, Jeff and his mother, Heather Muir, took ownership, making us a third generation family owned business committed to serving Davis, Salt Lake, and Weber counties. Today, Jeff and his father Marcus Muir run the shop, sharpening and maintaining tools with the same expertise and care that started it all and have expanded the business to serve customers all across Utah and surrounding states.
From homeowners to professionals, we take pride in helping our community get the most life out of their tools with high-quality sharpening services. Whether it’s kitchen knives, saw blades, or industrial tools, our mission remains the same: providing precision sharpening you can trust.
Our Team
Jeff Muir
Owner & Master Sharpener
Jeff Muir has been sharpening tools for as long as he can remember—literally. Raised in the shop from the age of five, he was always at his grandfather Duane’s side, learning the art of precision sharpening. Now, as the owner of NSL Saw & Tool, Jeff is known for his meticulous craftsmanship. A perfectionist in his work, he never rushes a job, ensuring every tool is sharpened to the highest standard.
With decades of hands-on experience, Jeff has saved clients thousands of dollars by restoring their tools instead of replacing them. Whether it’s a high-end saw blade, a barber’s shears, or a hunting knife, he treats every sharpening job with expert care.
Outside of the shop, Jeff is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hunting, custom-building rifles, and off-roading with his partner Jessica and their two young boys —who are now growing up in the shop just like he did. His dedication to quality and service isn’t just business; it’s a family legacy.
Marcus Muir
Master Sharpener & Operations Manager
Marcus Muir played a vital role in NSL Saw & Tool for over 20 years, continuing the family legacy started by his father-in-law, Duane Larson. As the second-generation owner alongside his wife, Heather, Marcus dedicated himself to perfecting the craft of sharpening and ensuring the business thrived. Under his leadership, he helped expand NSL Saw & Tool’s reputation for quality and precision before passing the torch to his son, Jeff.
Though Marcus has since retired, his impact on the business remains. You may still see him around the shop from time to time, lending a helping hand or simply spending time with Jeff.
Outside of NSL Saw & Tool, Marcus enjoys shooting, the outdoors, and, most of all, time with his family. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he takes pride in the legacy he helped build and the knowledge he has passed down to the next generation.
Heather Muir
Co-Owner & Administrative Support
As a co-owner of NSL Saw & Tool, Heather Muir plays a vital role in supporting the business and the family legacy. The daughter of Duane Larson, Heather has been part of the business since its early days. While she doesn’t handle the day-to-day operations, Heather has lent her skills in administrative work and continues to provide invaluable support to her husband, Marcus, and her son, Jeff.
Family is everything to Heather, and she’s deeply dedicated to ensuring the legacy of NSL Saw & Tool thrives for future generations. She shares Marcus’s love for the outdoors and spending quality time with their children and granddaughter. Heather’s passion for her family and the business reflects the strong foundation on which the shop is built, and her unwavering support helps the company continue to grow and succeed.
Duane Larson
Founder & Legacy Creator
In 1978, Duane Larson set out to provide a better life for his family during challenging times. Struggling to make ends meet, he started sharpening tools out of his home, working late into the night after his day job. His hard work and dedication paid off, and in 1991, Duane moved NSL Saw & Tool to its current storefront in Bountiful, Utah. It was there that he expanded the business, investing in high-quality machines and grinders, and turning the shop into a place to call home.
Duane’s journey is a true testament to the power of family and perseverance. A traditional family man, Duane has been happily married to his wife, Bev, for over 50 years. Her unwavering support allowed Duane to build a legacy that has helped tens of thousands of individuals and businesses over the years.
Duane not only raised his family but also played a pivotal role in shaping his grandson Jeff’s life. He introduced Jeff to hunting, guns, and sharpening at a young age, passing down skills and values that Jeff carries with him today. Though Duane has passed the torch to Jeff and Marcus, you may still see him from time to time at the shop critiquing Jeff (because that's what old men do) and even being the grinder himself doing what he does best… Sharpening tools. Outside of the shop, Duane enjoys woodworking in his basement and spending quality time with his beloved wife and family.
