Our Story
NSL Saw & Tool began in 1978 when founder Duane Larson started sharpening chainsaw blades in his basement. His attention to detail and steady, reliable service helped the business expand, eventually moving to its Bountiful location in 1991 and growing into a full sharpening and repair shop for knives, saw blades, and other tools.
Duane passed his skills on to his grandson, Jeff Muir, who trained with him for more than 15 years. Jeff and his mother, Heather, took ownership in 2012, continuing the family tradition as a third-generation, locally owned business.
Today, NSL Saw & Tool supports customers across Davis, Salt Lake, and Weber counties and works with clients throughout Utah. We handle professional clipper blades as well as everyday tools, and we aim to provide precise, dependable results every time.
Our Team
Jeff Muir
Owner & Master Sharpener
Jeff spent his childhood in the shop, learning the trade at his grandfather’s side starting at age five. Those early years turned into decades of experience, and today he’s known for his precise, detail-oriented approach to sharpening chef knives, carbide saw blades, grooming clippers, and more.
Customers across Utah rely on Jeff to restore their tools and extend their lifespan, often saving significant money in the process. When he’s not in the shop, he enjoys hunting, building custom rifles, and off-roading with his partner and their two boys, who are now growing up around the business the same way he did.
Marcus Muir
Master Sharpener & Operations Manager
Marcus Muir spent more than 20 years shaping NSL Saw & Tool and carrying forward the legacy started by his father-in-law, Duane Larson. As a second-generation owner, he refined his sharpening skills and helped strengthen the company’s reputation for precise, dependable work. His leadership supported the shop’s growth and set the foundation for the next generation.
Although retired, Marcus still stops by the shop to help out or catch up with Jeff. Outside of work, he enjoys shooting, spending time outdoors, and being with his family. He remains proud of the legacy he helped build and the experience he passed down to Jeff and the rest of the team.
Heather Muir
Co-Owner & Administrative Support
Heather Muir has supported NSL Saw & Tool since the early years, helping continue the business her father, Duane Larson, began. As a co-owner, she’s contributed through administrative work and reliable behind the scenes support, playing a steady role in the shop’s growth alongside Marcus and Jeff.
Family is central to Heather, and she enjoys the outdoors and time with her children and granddaughter. Her involvement has been essential to maintaining the family’s long-standing commitment to quality and service.
Duane Larson
Founder & Legacy Creator
The man who started it all. Duane Larson founded NSL Saw & Tool in 1978, sharpening tools from his home while working full time. His commitment to quality helped the business grow, eventually leading to its move to Bountiful in 1991. There, he invested in professional equipment and built the foundation that still supports the shop today.
Over the years, Duane passed his sharpening knowledge to his grandson, Jeff, sharing both skill and experience. Though now retired, he continues to visit the shop, offer guidance, and stay involved with the family business. Outside of work, Duane enjoys woodworking and spending time with his wife, Bev, and their family. His dedication and craftsmanship continue to shape NSL Saw & Tool’s identity and the values carried into each generation.
